CHAM Açores it is an inter-University scientific research unit linked to the FCSH of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and of the Universidade dos Açores. Includes researchers with different but complementary interests and demands cross-cultural comparative surveys, as well as multi-disciplinary approaches.

The main objectives are: the development and promotion of studies about History of Portugal, of the Azores and the Atlantic world, as well as the presence of the Portuguese in other continents; the study of the European correlation and the influence of the sea on the History of Portugal and Atlantic islands, through the treatment of different chronologies; the research into the historical construction of concepts, thought forms and cultures on a global scale; the research on global history from a multidisciplinary perspective.

In order to achieve this goals CHAM Açores look for and establish partnerships with public or private entities that promote the scientific knowledge.
