The Regional Directorate for Rural Development is responsible for the definition of policies related to agriculture and livestock, rural development, diversification, transformation and valorization of regional productions, agrarian formation and rural extension, management and valorization of forest and natural resources.

It is therefore responsible for ensuring the management, guidance, coordination and implementation of these policies focusing on agricultural and forestry productivity and the economic development of these activities, in alignment with the Common Agricultural Policy, through the implementation and management of the European Agricultural Support Programs of Rural Development in Azores.
